This is black metal that feels kind of raw and pure but not low-fi. The sound is done very well and it almost could be a great live recording. The guitar is most important for this release and it takes its influences from all sorts of metal and rock music making this sound so fresh.

The first 30 seconds of "Revenge by Fire" convinced me to get the whole album! It is a face-melting blend of speed and black metal, reminiscent of Hellripper! KVAEN is a Swedish solo project much like Hellripper but many known guest musicians helped J. Björnfot in his endeavor. Altogether it is really a solid debut album, I loved the melodies and the pace changes in the second half too, ending with a "calm" instrumental one. Well-done!!

Absolutely amazing album. It’s blowing my mind that these guys aren’t more known than this. Killer evil tremolo riffs, harsh high-pitched screams, everything’s oozing evil from every pore. Support this band, they’re going to become pretty big in the next few years. \m/

Blackbraid quickly followed up their 2022 debut in 2023 with more native folk infused furious black metal. This is by no means a sophomore slump as it is equally excellent, methodical, melodical, and approachable as the first record. 9/10
